Situated
in Ruimsig, a suburb north-west of the Johannesburg city centre
– Monash South Africa is the youngest member of the international
campuses of Monash University ,
“At Monash South Africa we focus on a quality campus-based
undergraduate experience in which our curricula are focused on local
and regional issues with sufficient global dimensions.,” says
says Pro Vice-chancellor Professor Tyrone Pretorius.
Facilities and information technology at Monash South Africa are
world class and include state-of-the-art lecture theatres and computer
labs with cutting-edge PCs. Fully managed residences can currently
accommodate 290 students on the 100 hectare property. The construction
of four new student residences which will accommodate a further
400 students on campus is scheduled to begin soon.
“Our campus strives to contribute to the vision of the broader
Monash system to be a research-intensive university, while at the
same time focusing on themes and problems relevant to our local
region. Our focus is on academic excellence at Monash South Africa
and small tutorial classes enable lecturers to provide students
with personalised teaching and individual attention.”
Monash South Africa offers a range of undergraduate and post-graduate
degrees. Undergraduate degree courses currently offered are: Bachelor
of Arts, Bachelor of Business and Commerce, Bachelor of Computing
and Bachelor of Commerce in Business Systems. In 2006, Bachelor
of Arts Honours programmes became available in Psychology, Geography
and Environmental Science and Communications and Media Studies and
in IT in Systems Management and Computing.

Monash South Africa campus map and contact information
The campus is located at 144 Peter Road in Ruimsig. It can be accessed
via the Western Bypass and is eight kilometres from the 14th Avenue
exit and six kilometres from the Pretoria/Krugersdorp Highway (N14).
Travelling to Monash South Africa
By car: the trip to Monash South Africa, takes
about 30 minutes from central Johannesburg. See maps 28 (DH80) and
29 (DH81) in the 12th edition (2002/2003) Witwatersrand Street Guide.
By plane: the campus is a 35 to 45 minute drive
away from Johannesburg International Airport and 15 to 20 minutes
from Lanseria Airport.
Parking at Monash South Africa
Parking is available on campus for students, staff and visitors.
Parking permits for staff and students can be purchased from the
Student Services Centre.
